Healthcare payment privacy
Map the patient information in your payment workflow.
A field-by-field review makes it easier to see where unnecessary PHI could enter payment systems and where the published architecture places the filtering and second-token step.

Review the complete path
| Stage | Questions to answer |
|---|---|
| Practice system and terminal | What information enters the payment package? Are patient references, treatment details, or free-text fields included? |
| MedToken step | Which unnecessary PHI fields are stripped? What does the retokenized payment package contain? |
| Network and bank | Which entities receive the package, and what information does each receive? |
| Receipts, logs, and reconciliation | What is retained or displayed? Can transaction references reconnect to patient records, and who has access? |
| Exceptions | How do refunds, failures, disputes, recurring payments, and online channels change the flow? |
Use synthetic examples
Ask for before-and-after payment packages using fabricated patient details and test payment information. Compare removed fields, retained fields, token references, and downstream outputs. Do not use real patient data in public demonstrations or ordinary sales inquiries.
Document responsibilities
Record which vendor operates each component and who controls configuration, access, retention, support, and incident response. Confirm what the proposed agreements cover.
The published application describes a transaction processor filtering the first token and creating a second token before onward transmission to the financial-services provider. Verify the specific configuration against your own workflow.
